Make a Unique Fall Leaf Crown

When life hands you leaves…well, why not make a fun leaf craft with the kids? These fall crowns took less than half an hour to make and cost next to nothing. I had all the materials on hand, so we were able to head straight for the woods and start collecting items!

Fall Leaf Crown. Rain or Shine Mamma

Craft: Leaf Crown

Best age range: 2-6

Location: Any place with leaves

Materials:

  • Leaves, feathers, flowers, seed pods etc
  • Card stock paper or regular paper folded
  • Measuring tape
  • Stapler
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to do it:

Take your child on a nature walk and collect the items he or she would like to use for the crown. Then measure your child’s head and cut the paper in a 2″-3″ strip to fit around the head. If you only have letter-size paper, you’ll need to staple a couple of sheets together to make the band long enough. A thicker card stock paper is ideal but since I didn’t have any on hand I just used regular paper that I folded three times. Put the band down and let your child lay out the leaves and other items on top if it the way he or she wants it.

Depending on your child’s age you may need to assist with the stapler, though I found that it was a great lesson in stapler safety for my 5-year-old. Use glue for the items that can’t be stapled and let it dry. Finally, staple the band together and – voilà, fall crown project is complete. The best part? When the kids are tired of the crown it can go on my compost pile.
