Who is Linda Åkeson McGurk?

I’m a writer and author who grew up in Sweden, approximately on the same latitude as the Gulf of Alaska but I’ve spent 15 years of my adult life in the US. Since my first daughter was born in 2008, I’ve also spent a large chunk of my time advocating for outdoor play and connecting children with nature.

Most people probably know me as the author of There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather and The Open-Air Life or as the founder of the blog Rain or Shine Mamma. Both the blog and the books are passion projects born out of my desire to get more kids (and adults!) outside and have engaged hundreds of thousands of parents, educators and outdoor enthusiasts all over the world.

When I’m not working on a new book or speaking about friluftsliv, you can usually find me sauntering around the woods near my home in rural southwest Sweden, where I with my husband, two daughters and two bonus daughters.

Honestly, though, I’m not here to talk about me, but about my mission to get more kids to play outside and more adults to embrace a sustainable lifestyle. If you too think that the best childhood memories are created outside, while jumping in puddles, digging in dirt, catching bugs and climbing trees, you’re in the right place. If you’re searching for inspiration to lead a simpler, slower life, connected with the land, your community and your ancestors, you’ll be able to find it here as well. And if you’re ready to come home to nature and live an open-air life, I can help show you how.

My motto

There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.

- Scandinavian proverb
